Avatar and shopping.

I watched the movie I got from Harry and Liz after the past few days: Avatar. In spite of its semi-liberal tone (the natural-loving natives versus the invading, greedy military forces), it is a very compelling movie. The visual effects are compelling: the floating mountains, the alien animals, and the bizarre plants take one's breath away. Sigorney Weaver is in rare form as Grace, showing a mixture of the toughness she had as Ripley in the Alien movies and the compassion for others she had in Galaxy Quest (and probably some other movies she did that I haven't seen like Gorillas in the Mist). The big lesson I got from the movie was that greed and prejudice can blind a person to the beauty and inmeasurable value found in life itself.

Besides watching Avatar, I did some shopping this weekend using two of the gift cards I got for my birthday. On Saturday, I used the gift card I got from Cosmo and Wanda to get some supplies, a four-pack of the live-action Batman movies (before Christian Bale took over the role), and the 2nd season of "Heroes." Today, I bought Doctor Who: The TARDIS Handbook and a card game version of Monopoly using the gift card I got from Clark.
